Three years ago I starting learning how to swim front crawl. After a few months I went to a session with instructors who recorded all my movements with cameras and mirrors. After the first ten seconds, they stopped me. My water struggle must have been so awful. My coaches gave me some technique pointers after which my times improved immediately. Were it not for this immediate stop to reflect, receive instruction and learning, I would still be floundering.
When implementing your strategy through a transformation program, it is also crucial to stop regularly, to reflect and learn. A transformation coach can help accelerate and sustain this process.
You can build moments of reflection in your roadmap after the main project phases. And, you can make sure that everyone can stop the process at any time when something is about to go wrong. Allowing everyone to 'Pull the Andon' as it is called in the Lean methodology, ensures everyone is trusted and empowered to take part in quality assurance, and stimulates continuous learning.
During the last nine weeks I wrote about the following non-exhaustive elements of your transformation program you need to get right to be successful in realizing your strategy.
Ignite your transformation initiative by:
1. Starting to move
2. Launching a teaser campaign
Find your destination by:
3. Walking from right to left
4. Not getting lost in translation
5. Organizing your kick-off!
Take action by:
6. Being a Maestro of transformation
7. Avoiding the inactivity-trap
Navigate transformation dynamics by:
8. Onboarding feedback
9. Adapting to make your strategy stick.
Underlying the success of each of these steps is your own and your team's ability to:
• Consciously and pro-actively make bold transformation moves
• In face of your organizations' transformation dynamics
• Firmly focused on achieving the full potential of your strategy implementation efforts.
This requires you to have a transformation partnering mindset, skills and knowledge which we will explore over the coming weeks.
